Hydromet has successfully demonstrated its patented technology at Hydromet Research Centre to produce precipitated silica from rice husk ash (RHA) provided by client from it’s existing power plant. Precipitated silica, a synthetic form of amorphous silica, is created through a controlled reaction between a silicate solution—typically sodium silicate—and a mineral acid, such as sulfuric acid. This process generates small, porous silica particles with a high surface area, making precipitated silica a versatile additive used across industries, including rubber, tires, paints, cosmetics, and personal care. Producing precipitated silica from rice husk ash presents several substantial advantages, particularly in terms of cost-efficiency, environmental sustainability, and material properties. This combination of economic, ecological, and practical benefits makes RHA-derived precipitated silica a highly attractive alternative for various commercial applications.
